About Abigail

Abigail Lamb is an Animator and Designer currently in her final year of study on the ECA Animation Programme. A self-described eclectic, Abigail absorbs all forms of experiences and information from the world around her, unable to control that solid strain of creative curiosity always running through her.

Her work is reflective of this absorption of all and anything; peers having often remarked that her creations indicate the work of a collective rather than a single animator. Regularly using a wide range of animation media from stop motion to hand drawn, she can turn her hand to them all in unique and varied ways, and though an advocate of bright and bold colours, she’s not one to shy away from monochrome tones.

Speaking of monochrome, Abigail is currently in the midst of creating her graduate film, a Sci-Fi short that revolves around a lonely spaceman named Lute;

“He’s an adorable little character who’s developing his own cult following on my social media accounts. The film will be pretty touching and I’m hoping everyone will be able to see a little bit of Lute in themselves.” - Lamb

Favouring warm and cozy coffee shops and cafes as her place of work, hidden away from the bitter Edinburgh winds, Abigail sticks on some music and gets cracking.

“Animation is a broad subject and there are lots of elements to contend with. I particularly enjoy pre-production work and spend a lot of time on my storyboards and animatics, as well as my character designs and concept art.” – Lamb

As the basis of any animator’s work, these processes are vital to the development of Abigail’s films, and without which she believes she couldn’t make a decent animation. Another vital aspect to her work is her small flamingo-embellished notebook, full of ideas, sketches, re-sketches and scribbled notes – the starting point for any of her projects.

“Oh if I lost that I would be in trouble. Haha!” - Lamb

Abigail has taken part in various screenings and exhibitions, both self-driven and collaborative, co-curated the ECA Animation exhibition Stuff That Moves last year, has had work screened at the Hidden Door Festival, and even helped with the editing of three films that went on to be included in the New Contemporaries earlier this year. Not to mention a nomination for the Edinburgh International Film Festival’s Short Film challenge. There’s little, it appears, that Abigail can’t or won’t do.
