About Nica

Not many artists can call themselves internationally known by their early twenties - Nica Harrison can.

Having started her career in Russia as a student of fine art, she was traditionally trained in drawing and oil painting. She then took a leap of faith and moved to London where she studied at Camberwell College of Arts. This was the point that she found herself drawn towards a less traditional form of art, the moving image. This realisation saw Nica move again, this time to Edinburgh to study Animation, to give herself the ability to turn her pre-existing skills into professional standard moving imagery. Here she managed to amalgamate her abilities into, as she puts it, ‘injecting movement into images’.

Nica has been recognised since the start of her foray into the art world, being an exhibiting artist since she first embarked upon a life of art. Exhibiting as early as 2013 in Kaluga and Moscow before moving to London, and subsequently exhibiting her work in not only numerous shows but also having her films featured in a myriad of film festivals. She has had her work selected and shown all over the globe, from Bulgaria, to Ukraine, to America.
Being selected for some of these festivals, such as Desert Dust in Texas, is an accolade in itself, but as well as that she is being recognised by high profile individuals within the art world. For example, at a recent solo show a tutor from the prestigious California Institute of The Arts was organising obtaining a copy of the artist’s recent short film Illusions, to show her students as a benchmark of current animation/art.

Throughout all of this recognition is it important to Nica not to lose her style, she thrives off more handmade processes such as screenprinting for her films, and preserving what she calls ‘original illustrative quality’ in her films.
